Use a Bleed Key
Below is a guide to bleeding a domestic radiator using a bleed key:Plumbed to every to radiator in domestic heating system, is something called a bleed valve. This valve looks like a square piece of metal recessed into one of the top corners. This is the point at which you can bleed any air out of the radiator. To open this valve you need the key. It is not like a standard key as it has a milled square hole in it to accomodate the block on the radiator and a flat butterfly shaped piece so you can turn it (like a winder for a clock). Professional plumbers such as Chingford Plumbers carry all styles of bleed keys. However if no key is there, they can be bought from most plumbers merchants. To Bleed a Radiator with the Key:1). Isolate the boiler and its circulating pump. Place the key on the spindle and turn it anticlockwise (undo) for a quarter of one turn. There should be no need to turn it any further, however, have a container ready just in case you open it too much.2). Soon the air should begin to escape with a hiss. Make sure that the radiator bleed key remains in place on the spindle so as soon as the air stops and you see a dribble of water appears you can close off the valve. A Chingford Plumber can carry out this task if you are not confident or unsure and will also guarantee the work.
